Conversation Facilitators (CFs)

“I was able to learn from the international students and share my stories as well as learning from their own. I believed that the activities at Café helped us connect and understand one another better.”

– CF, Fall 2021

Program Summary

CFs participate in VISAS Café to promote and enhance group discussion with ELs and other VISAS participants, 1.5 hours per week.

Program Outline

What do CFs do?

CFs participate in VISAS Café, assisting the VISAS Café Coordinator with preparation and setup/takedown. Most importantly, CFs interact with other VISAS volunteers and international participants in the casual café setting and facilitate small group discussions.

Time Commitment and Schedule

CFs attend weekly VISAS Cafés (Wednesdays from 5-6 PM in the Language Commons, NCH 298), helping with set up and clean up 10 minutes before and 5 minutes after. CFs have brief weekly meetings (15 minutes) with the Café Coordinator.

Position Requirements

English does NOT need to be your first language in order to volunteer as a Conversation Facilitator. An interest in getting to know people from other cultures and to share one’s own culture is the only requirement.
